I have this same render problem as well on 4.03. Everything is working fine…then out of the blue it fails to render - it just hangs at the “rendering audio” part of the render process. Ive tried a million different things - deleting movies with suspected audio - and deleting all the audio in my project. All the fixes outline here…still not joy. It’s very frustrating.
My feeling is that Boinx should make a commitment to the people who rely on this software to address the issues here, to give them some sense of possibility about it being fixed. Otherwise people will just abandon the software which would be such a pity because it is truly a great app!
The export process couldn’t be started, because Safari put a quarantine flag on it and the system didn’t remove it for an unknown reason. Solution: Download the app again (e.g. with a different browser) or try to remove the quarantine flag manually.
Exporting very large slideshows fails with a “File could not be found” error: We are using QuickTime to do the export and this system component is handling everything, we are just giving it the video frames. With very large movies, this process fails for an unknown reason and don’t deliver a valid movie file back to FotoMagico. Workaround: try to make shorter slices of your slideshow, export them separately and put them together again afterwords. We are working on changing the export process to a new API and hopefully this will fix this problem (this is scheduled for the v4.4 release).
Export fails when audio is place in the slideshow with Fadein and Fadeout option set to “manual”
(unchecked “Automatic”) and with bigger durations as the current slide. This causes a miscalculation in the position and duration for this audio in the export and brings the export process to a stop. Workaround: Set the “Fadein” and “Fadeout” option of the audio files to “Automatic”. We are currently digging into the problem to find a solution (unfortunately this wouldn’t be in the upcoming v4.1 release coming soon)
If you encounter a different type of error while exporting, please contact support(at)boinx.com and ask for instructions how to create export logs with FotoMagico and how to send them to us. Every log is valuable and helpful! The logs are a big chance for us to analyze whats going on in your setup and environment while exporting.
To Boinx team and others with this issue.
I have been using 4v to create audio slideshow and 3.8v to export.
See my comment in full in Fotomagico 4 EPIC FAIL.
It covers a couple of other issues too which may be of interest.
After using fm3 for several years I bought fm4 via iTunes. Everything was OK until I tried to export. After reading some of the message I find that I did not get the latest version - my shows 4.0.1 not 4.0.3. Plus I believe there is a problem downloading with Safari. What should I do to get the latest version and must I use Firefox to download? After putting in a number of hours on this project I’m really frustrated after purchasing the new version that doesn’t seem to have a great deal of new features or ease of use. Please advise.
@bobcens: We are very sorry, but Apple seems to need more time to review FotoMagico 4.0.3 before they are going to put it in the Mac AppStore for download. If you can’t wait for getting the updates, please send your iTunes receipt of your FotoMagico purchase to support(at)boinx.com and ask for a regular license. With this Boinx license you are able to use the download version of FotoMagico from our website.
As you properly already noticed FotoMagico 4.1 was approved finally by Apple and we released it immediately. We are working on Version 4.2 already. Please keep sending feedback so we can sort out any issues as quickly as possible! Thanks for all your help!
I have the latest download - it shows 4.1 - but today when I tried to export for my iPad, AGAIN, it is still exporting as an .mov NOT a .m4v.
I will have to go back to 3.8 again to export to my iPad.
However, if I had not kept the 3.8 on my computer I would not be able to export to my iPad at all.
Having paid for version 3 and again for v4 it is not really satisfactory.
Why will it not export to m4v???
When will there be a fix???
I love Fotomagico but this is frustrating and I have not even had a response to my comments regarding this problem!!
I go through the same process to export as iPad as I did for v3 and there is no indication that it is not exporting as an m4v until it is complete and it opens as a mov. No error message. Nothing.
@shirleysherris: The exported .mov file by FotoMagico 4 is indeed a H264 encoded movie file and it should be no problem to use it in iTunes for uploading to your iPad.
