Video sequence in endless loop

Hi there. I´m new to fotomagico. Unfortunately i couldn’t find anything to my problem in the help or the web.

I want to run a video sequence in continuous loop (flag of the country).only when I press a button the next slide should come. is it possible. I can´t find any option.

greetings

Marco

Hi, Marco – you CAN create a slideshow that loops over and over (from the main menu Slideshow > Settings… > Options > Playback (click on Slideshow Loops) BUT it’s the WHOLE slideshow from start to finish that will loop. There’s no way to create a video sequence “loop” in FM (say, for example, slides 1 thru 10) that cycle through over and over again until you press a key and then the slide show continues at slide 11 from there. Is that what you’re asking?

This suggestion does not work! Not with the newest version of FotoMagico!

Robert – the OP never responded to my query as to whether my suggestion was what he was looking for, so there’s no way to know if that worked for him. But my suggestion is still valid in the latest version.

In the current version of FM (6.7.4 – or 6.7.5b1), the option to loop a slideshow continuously is STILL THERE – with just a slight change in wording. From the Main menu choose Slideshow > Settings… > Advanced > then click the option for “Playback: Endless Loop” – but again this loops the ENTIRE slideshow, not a particular section.

In the newer versions, however, you CAN create Chapters which will independently loop. Above each slide in the Timeline is the slide number. Right-click to the right of that number and from the pop-up menu choose Chapter > Add… and then assign a Name for that Chapter AND check the “Options: Loops” checkbox. Now decide which slide in the Timeline will be the LAST slide in that Chapter, and then choose a NEW Chapter marker for the slide RIGHT AFTER that one. This new chapter can also loop if you want, or if not just leave the “Options: Loops” unchecked.

Now when you play the slideshow, the Chapter will loop back to the beginning of the Chapter continuously UNTIL you press Option-right arrow. That will cause the slide show to skip over the rest of the slides in that Chapter and start at the next Chapter marker. If there’s no Loop option assigned to that next Chapter, the show will play to the end. If have assigned the Loop option, then that chapter will start to loop. Again, press Option-right arrow to skip over the remaining slides in that Chapter, and it will continue. You can repeat this process and insert loops wherever you want.

You also have three different Variants of how you want the Chapters to be handled.

All of this is documented at Using Chapters - FotoMagico

Hmmm, first don’t you think that I would have tried all this before posting my original post? I have done this several times now. I want it to loop endlessly the entire slideshow as a mp4.
I go SLIDESHOW > SETTINGS > ADVANCED > ENDLESS LOOP and I check the box. Then I go to SHARE and tell it I want a Custom QT video, 4K.
Everytime I have tried this, it only played once and I have tried a few times now.
Have you ever actually done this with the newest version, or are you just guessing it still works?
Robert

So the answer here to my question is that you CANNOT save a mp4 file to then play in an infinite loop every time you open it after saving it to loop. As of today, that feature or option has never been built into the mp4 movie files, or any real movie files.
You have to tell the PLAYER to infinite loop. So for me, I had to put the mp4 file on a USB drive, plug that into the Samsung TV, tell the TV to see the USB drive, and once the media player saw it, I went to its settings and told it to repeat always.
A mp4 file will not loop on its own unless you tell to loop AFTER you open it, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid. So no, this cannot be done with FotoMagico.

Sorry, I responded to this in your OTHER post. The bottom line is, YES, you are correct – you CANNOT create an .mp4 file from a FotoMagico slide show that will automatically loop over and over once you export it, unless you tell the QuickTime application to loop the file.

Once you “share” the slideshow (as a stand-alone .mp4 file), FotoMagico no longer has control over what happens.

You also asked me if I have ever done this with the newest version – and the answer to that is “NO.” I ALWAYS play my slideshows from within FotoMagico from my MacBook Pro and through an HDMI connection to a large 4K monitor or smart TV. But I HAVE TRIED to do what you want – and it doesn’t work. I don’t think about it – because I don’t use looping in my slideshows (except NOW that creating looping Chapters works, I can create an opening loop that runs while people come into a room before the presentation, then just Option-right arrow to get the show to play once everyone is seated).
