I downloaded the new 6.8 release this morning and played with the Map Assistant to create the multiple styles along a single route. The tutorial that was also released made it clear on how to do that – it wasn’t intuitive in the beta, but now that we know how, it’s extremely easy.

I just wanted to point out, though, that on my first attempt at playing the layer, the colors and styles of the route appeared as I defined them, but NONE of the route heads displayed at all, and not all of the line widths displayed correctly either. I played around a bit and discovered YOU MUST CHOOSE A ROUTE HEAD IN THE OPTIONS PANEL FOR THEM TO SHOW UP (just not the first “transparent” head signified by a small dashed box – anything else works). You ALSO NEED TO ADJUST THE LINE WIDTH TO MAXIMUM USING THE SLIDER, otherwise the line widths all appear uniform, regardless of the widths set in the Assistant. After you make those adjustments and THEN play the map layer, the heads and line widths take on the parameters set originally in the Map Assistant.

I would also like to recommend that in the pop-up boxes for selecting those different styles in the Map Assistant that for the Head Icon line, either SHOW THE ICON IN THE COLOR CHOSEN or add a color box to the right of the icon that shows the color chosen (that makes it easy to see immediately what icon AND color is being used). Also, if possible, can the LINE WIDTH be displayed on the map itself (you can see the line style, color, and opacity, but not the width).

Thanks Oliver and Peter  !!
