How to insert Placeholder

please help. trying to create placeholder. on Mac. goto edit menu and there is insert placeholder. but all options grayed out. documentation not helpful

anyone have a link to video on how to crate a place holder. or documentation.

The “Edit > Insert Placeholder > (list of 32 options)” menu item is for inserting 32 different types of text information as specified in the name of each option. You have to create a text block on your slide, select the text, then you can go to the Insert Placeholder menu option and pick one (they will NOT be grayed out). You can place the block where you want it, format the text style, color, font, etc. When the show is playing, the appropriate information will be displayed.

BUT – I’m guessing that is NOT what you want. You want to create “image” placeholders instead, so that you can save the placeholder slide as a snippet and then reuse it whenever you want. On a new slide, place an image where you want it, size it by zooming in or out, create masks, etc. Then right-click on the image and in the drop-down menu choose File > Is Placeholder (Ctrl-shift-P). You’ll see the image now displays with a broken line around it. You can add more images, or text, or whatever else. Once you have a single slide (or multiple slides) created that are placeholders, select the slide (or slides) and go to the main menu File > Save Snippet… and choose Selected Slides Only (or Whole Slideshow), then assign the Snippet a name. Now when you want to reuse that Snippet, go to the right side options panel and select Snippets and you SHOULD see your named Snippet in the Custom section at the very top of the Options panel. Now just drag that into a slideshow, and then drag any image to one of those placeholders and the new image will be placed with whatever parameters you had set for that placeholder.

Confusing? A little – but once you do it a few times it should get easier.

Hope that helps…
