Configuration Advice

For doing two camera, live HD streaming with Boinx TV,
I am considering a:
MacPro 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Nehalem” processor;
3GB (three 1GB) memory;
ATI Radeon HD 5770 with 1GB GDDR5;

Does any one have any comments, recommendations,
additions, changes to this configuration?

Thank you

Thank you for considering BoinxTV. First of all I would recommend to use mimoLive instead as it supports streaming via RTMP directly without the help of third party apps.

Secondly, if you did not already purchase the MacPro, I would recommend to purchase a new iMac instead. The MacPro strangely enough doesn’t have a hardware h.264 encoder so that the CPU has to do the encoding which puts a heavier load than necessary on the machine. Also the new iMacs have a more powerful graphics card. If you can afford it, the key metric for the graphics card is the amount of memory.

Thirdly, do you already have cameras? If not, you need to decide if you are going to use HDMI or SDI cableing. I would recommend SDI because the cables are more reliable and can be run over longer distances. Depending on that, you’ll have a choice of interface cards or boxes to connect the cameras to the Mac. I’ll be happy to provide further guidance if you give me more information on your existing equipment and use case.
