When launching BoinxTV, we encounter this message:
“BoinxTV requires Quartz Composer to operate. The operating systems states that Quartz Composer is not supported on your graphics hardware. Please double-check you graphics card and the connected displays. Contact Boinx Software support if the problem persists.”
We are currently using an ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card, which was recommended to us. We tried rebooting several times but with no improvement. Is there something we’ve overlooked?
This message indicates that the MacOS X system tells BoinxTV that the current graphics hardware can’t be used with graphics acceleration. This could have two reasons:
Do you have two graphics cards in use and the system provides the “wrong” one to BoinxTV? If so, please try to swap the main screen from on graphics card to the other with the “Displays System Preference” panel, so that the main screen (that with the menu bar) is running on the ATI Radeon HD 5870 graphics card.
You system don’t run its graphics hardware accelerated because due to an unknown misconfiguration the Apple Software Renderer fall back has take over? Unfortunately I don’t have solution how to determine if this happened to you. (Here is a technote by Apple that talks about this fallback but don’t give an solution for normal users either http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#qa/qa1502/_index.html )
Just to update this problem:
We solved the issue by updating to the most recent version of Snow Leopard.
