Canon support with OX 10.6.7

Now that mac X 10.6.7 is out is there any news on Canon camera compatibility?

Yes there is, we are working on it and there is a Beta update available for testing: http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/beta Feel free to try!

And please report your findings. Thanks!

With Canon 5D and 7D (os 10.6.7 and istopmotion beta version) doesn’t work. Black screen and no control.

Please make sure you have the latest firmware installed. We learned that older firmwares prohibit the cameras from being triggered. Also note: You’ll not get live-view from still cameras. You can shoot individual frames.

EOS 400D - no joy. Recognises and tests the camera - passes it, but it does not fire.

Firmware up-to-date - v1.1.1

Apologies - forgot to say - this is with the 2.8b3 beta

I checked the list of compatible cameras before I bought this software, it said that the 550D was compatible and was test by Boinx, the camera doesn’t work with the software ( I also tried the beta) any help?

Please make sure the camera is set to JPG recording and manual focus to avoid long loading times (as many settings to “manual” as possible is recommend, also “PTP-mode” if available). It is also advised that there is a certain amount of space available on the memory card (an empty one is even better). Enhanced capturing support is only available from iStopMotion 2.8 beta (http://boinx.com/istopmotion/beta/) and OSX 10.6.7 or newer due to technical reasons.

to quote one of your co-workers ‘You don’t PTP mode on Canon cameras, make sure you use the 2.8 beta. And it will work in standard mode. We have a550d at the office and were able to rest it ourselves.’ However, you instruct to turn on ‘PTP’ i cannot find a PTP option and have come to realise it would cost a lot to purchase parts to enable PTP. I have struggled with your software and have found that the beta does not help at all. Please Help?

That’s why I wrote “PTP-mode” if available.
Please use the 2.8 version, OSX 10.6.7, an empty memory card and make sure as many settings are set to manual (also focus etc).

Following the list of compatible cameras Canon Powershot SX100 is/was compatible with Boinx iStopMotion. Camera doesn’t work with the software ( I also tried the beta). Black screen in Cam and Mac does not register that a cam is connected.
Anyone has some help?

Have you followed the hints above? (Please make sure the camera is set to JPG recording and manual focus to avoid long loading times (as many settings to “manual” as possible is recommend, also “PTP-mode” if available). It is also advised that there is a certain amount of space available on the memory card (an empty one is even better). Enhanced capturing support is only available from iStopMotion 2.8 beta (http://boinx.com/istopmotion/beta/) and OSX 10.6.7 or newer due to technical reasons. )

The Beta is already available as 2.8 final.

Just to summarize also in this thread:

If you are running on Mac OS X v.10.6.7, iStopMotion 2.8, which went final in the meantime, works just fine.

However, in the Mac OS X v.10.6.8 update, Apple introduced some major changes to still camera support, which means that we have to once again go back and fix everything. We are working on a fix and will keep you informed.

Just FYI - EOS400D (on OSX10.6.8) does now fire the camera, but times out and doesn’t transfer a picture. Mindful that you are trying to fix!

While not a final solution, we have managed to get still camera support working again for 10.6.8 and OS X Lion. Right now there are 2 caveats:

  1. make sure your memory card is initially empty
  2. set your camera to shot only RAW or JPG but not both.
